The first domain that I sold was Hobbitthemovie.net. I found out that MGM would be doing a movie based on the book “The Hobbit.” I liked the earlier movies (Lord of the Rings 1, 2, 3) so I decided to look for a domain name that
I found that Hobbitthemovie.net was available. I decided to purchase it, even though it’s a .net domain and not .com. The .net wasn’t as good of a location but I felt it still had potential.
I purchased it on Yahoo.com and I published a page at the address that the domain name was for sale. I got an email from a buyer who wanted to buy the domain. I was surprised since I thought that I would need to keep the domain until the movie launched. But I took the opportunity and sold it for $150.
Sometimes which domain name will sell will surprise you despite all of your research and planning!
i did mistakes when i was young and didn’t know what i am doing, The big problem is that a lot of people registering Trademarks…This is the wrong way to start and i am not Proud about that, but i did the same mistakes that a lot of people doing when they hear about the domaining industry, the person who bought the domain from me also did a mistake but today believe me i will not registered any Trademarks or related Trademarks, it was all things that happened when i just getting started in the domain industry…

So.. you capitalized on the name of a movie. Bordering cybersquatting.
scum like you should crawl back under whatever stone it is you emerged from.
domaining is NOT about making money on the back of brands or other peoples work. It’s because of people like you that the whole industry is at risk with the new broad brush anti-squatting process being proposed by ICANN.
And no I don’t expect you to approve this comment, you didn’t approve the last one accusing you of squatting on other names.

This is complete federal trademark infringement. You do the domain community no favors by glorifying such a story.

” I found out that MGM would be doing a movie based on the book “The Hobbit.” I liked the earlier movies (Lord of the Rings 1, 2, 3) so I decided to look for a domain name that was relevant to the new film coming out.”
In your opinion, what created value in this domain name to make it worthy of registration?
What is the rationale that permits you to benefit from the sale of this domain name?
If you were a producer of this film, what would be your reaction to a third party buying and selling this domain name?
Can you see why these issues are important and should be carefully considered before registering any domain name?

You’re starting off on the wrong foot.
Don’t be another shameful domainer in this industry.

Sometimes the way you are screaming and yelling at these domainers (these guys are often TOTALLY unaware of the ramifications of their actions) reminds me of things my three year old son does because he doesn’t know any better! Do you think this guy would be so quick to share this story if he really understood the risk he is taking?
Sometimes we need to do a better job of educating.
Registrars have the tools, RIGHT NOW, to red-flag domains that potentially infringe, and to flash full screen warnings that would both notifiy and educate. They don’t need to stop you from registering if that’s what you are intent on doing – but they sure could put you on notice.
My son learned that if he spills cornflakes all over the table, he ain’t watching television until it’s cleaned up. So now, he don’t spill. As a community, we could do a better job of communicating the proper behavior and the consequences of making the wrong choice.
Wait just a damn minute, is that a cornflake I see next to your laptop?!

“The problem is not me because i did mistakes when i was young and didn’t know what i am doing, ”
Okay you didn’t know you were doing wrong when you started.
But you continue the error by writing about this “mistakes” and how
quickly and easily you profited from it.
You are setting the wrong example for other newcomers who may visit your blog.
And please believe me when I say you did not have to write this blog posting because nobody really cares about your first domain sale.
Please be more responsible.
