It is true that it is difficult to rank on SERP page 1. But today the traffic is also huge.

In good old days, when nit was easy to rank, the traffic was also very less. Today, the traffic is huge.

Further, it may be difficult to rank now as compared to 10 years ago, but it is much easier now to rank than say 4-5 years ago. 4-5 years ago, all spammy sites could buy links and outrank genuine quality sites, just because those spammy sites had deep pockets and money to burn on buying links. This luxury was not available to quality content driven sites.

But now, buying links is frowned heavily by google and lots of quality sites, with good content and even without deep pockets can easily rank ahead of those spammy sites.

Believe me, the race is now easier for the genuine sites as compared to what it was 3-4 years back.
